In 2010, Dubai’s first low cost carrier, flydubai, selected CTC Aviation to manage and carry out all pilot recruitment.
We use our own bespoke technology – “Electronic Mass Application” system (eMA) – to manage pilot applications, which is ideally suited to flydubai; the airline stated the need for proven technology to manage the volume of applicants and to streamline the process thus aiding the airline’s expansion and also significantly improving the candidate experience.
Our specialist aircrew selection team oversees the process, conducting the initial stages of assessment according to flydubai’s specific requirements.
Most selection takes place at our dedicated Airline Selection and Resourcing Centre – Dibden Manor UK, but our team also take our selection tools around the globe to various destinations as well as Dubai as applicant demand requires.
Candidates who are successful through the early phases of non-technical and simulator assessments with CTC Aviation are then recommended to flydubai for a final interview by the flydubai team. The conversion rate of short list applicants being offered an employment contract is extremely high.
“In partnering with CTC Aviation, we not only gain access to many years of aviation selection experience, but also to a tailored, advanced and proven applicant management system that will assist us significantly in enhancing the candidate experience as we increase our search for talent world-wide.”
Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO, flydubai
The unique partnership between CTC Aviation and easyJet dates back to the airline’s first operations in 1995. Our pilots have operated flying the line with easyJet since the inaugural flight of their original Boeing 737 aircraft.
Both organisations have come a long way in the 20 years that have ensued. CTC Aviation has provided and continues to provide, easyJet with a full range of service from: airline pilot selection including simulator assessments, ab initio training, pilot resourcing through to type rating, type conversion and recurrent training to instructor and examiner programmes. We also provide non-technical training programmes such as CRM and CRMI courses.
“CTC Aviation is one of our most important partners, having responded to our needs and provided innovative solutions to the challenges we have faced since our first flight in 1995. We look forward to extending our relationship to ensure the very best opportunities for our future pilots.”
Carolyn McCall, CEO, easyJet
CTC Aviation in partnership with British Airways
CTC Aviation has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with British Airways. Our two companies have collaborated in providing new entrant pilot training since 1996, when BA selected CTC Aviation to deliver their first Jet Orientation Course.
Since 2011, CTC Aviation (through ‘Airline Placement Limited’ – a wholly owned subsidiary of the CTC Aviation group) has managed the British Airways Future Pilot Programme (FPP). CTC Aviation is one of only three training providers in the world approved to provide the Integrated ATPL airline pilot career programme programme for aspiring pilots who are selected to join the programme.
We have managed the intake of almost 300 trainee pilots through the FPP and into employment with British Airways. We also deliver the Airbus A320 aircraft specific initial type rating training for all FPP graduates (regardless of which training provider delivered the earlier stages of training) ahead of their move into airline operations.
From 2015 we have been entrusted as the first independent, external training provider to deliver Airbus A320 conversion training for the airline’s newly qualified and experienced pilots; including those changing aircraft type as they move into Command roles. Initial plans will see up to 200 pilots commencing A320 type conversion training with CTC Aviation.
Today, hundreds of CTC Aviation graduate pilots are flying with British Airways; some are now working in flight operations, training and management roles.
“CTC Aviation has been providing a variety of training for our experienced and newly qualified pilots for nearly two decades. They have consistently met our high standards of pilot training that we demand for our customers.”
Lindsay Craig, Manager – Pilot Recruitment, British Airways
CTC Aviation in Partnership with Qatar Airways
Since 2012, CTC Aviation has provided airline pilot selection and training services to Qatar Airways in the form of the CTC WINGS MPL in partnership with Qatar Airways – a truly international airline pilot career programme.
The CTC WINGS MPL in partnership with Qatar Airways is the culmination of a collaboration of Qatar Airways, the Qatar CAA and CTC Aviation. The programme is open all year-round to applicants from across the globe. Our specialist selection team run regular selection events in the United Kingdom, New Zealand and at various international venues where applicant numbers demand.
Qatar Airways provides a conditional offer of employment as an A320 First Officer based in Doha to successful applicants prior to training commencement where trainees also complete the final Line Operating Experience (LOE) phase of training. All other phases of core, basic and intermediate training are delivered by CTC Aviation at our Crew Training Centres in the United Kingdom and New Zealand.
As part of our philosophy to work in true partnership with our customer airlines, a CTC Aviation TRE (Type Rating Examiner) works alongside the Qatar Airways team in Doha to ensure that the type rating training (MPL Phases 3 and 4) for the new intake pilots is accurately tailored to incorporate Qatar Airways’ SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and company culture.
“CTC Aviation is a key partner for Qatar Airways to deliver the pool of professional pilots that we need to meet our operational requirements.”
Akbar Al Baker, Chief Executive Officer, Qatar Airways
CTC Aviation in partnership with Jetstar
In April 2010 CTC Aviation supported Australasia’s leading low fares airline Jetstar to launch a ground-breaking new cadet pilot training programme in Australia and New Zealand. The programme is tailored to deliver well trained pilots into a career flying jet aircraft and help support the airline’s expanding pan Asian operations.
There are two distinct entry routes into the Jetstar programme – one for ab-initio trainees and the second ‘Advanced Cadet Programme’ for those already holding a commercial pilots licence. Both routes culminate in a Jetstar A320 type rating which will is also delivered by CTC Aviation at our Crew Training Centre – Southampton (UK).
In addition to delivering the full training progammes, CTC Aviation also manages and delivers the selection of suitable candidates on behalf of Jetstar.
“Jetstar has a requirement for new pilots to satisfy our rapid expansion plans throughout Australasia. CTC Aviation has produced a tailored solution for both ab initio and already licenced pilots – integrating high quality selection techniques with the best training practices to provide us with a high calibre of new entrant. We have been very pleased with the results of this excellent relationship and look forward to continuing our strong partnership with CTC Aviation”.
Mark Dal Pra, Executive Manager Operations
fastjet – Africa’s newest airline which operated for the first time in November 2012 – selected CTC Aviation to provide an extensive range of support services in preparation for the airline’s launch.
CTC Aviation’s team worked alongside fastjet management to recruit Pilots and Cabin Crew and CTC Aviation pilots were at the controls for the inaugural flights.
A full service agreement between fastjet and CTC Aviation has seen us continue to supply Training Captains and recruit direct entry pilots and cabin crew for the operation as the airline expands.
CTC Aviation delivers operator conversion and type rating courses for new and existing pilots for fastjet and subsidiary airlines. Additionally, the agreement covers a broad range of ground school courses including command skills development and instructor/examiner programmes, as well as the supply of simulator time for recurrent training at CTC Aviation’s Southampton UK Crew Training Centre.
“CTC Aviation has a long established reputation for supporting start-up airlines. Their expertise has enabled us to free-up our management team to concentrate on the operational demands that come with such a venture. CTC Aviation’s professional approach has helped us to achieve our deadlines and we have every confidence that their team is best placed to work alongside us as we expand. CTC Aviation is a standard-setter in our industry and fastjet aims to do the same by bringing international standards of safety, quality, security and reliability to our passengers.”

Aviation software systems solutions
As training and recruitment methodologies advance, so do the systems software packages that support the needs of busy training, recruitment and simulator operations departments.
We have evolved a suite of support systems which can be linked, fully branded and tailored and are in current use with Airline Partners.
Pilot application and selection system - eMA
eMA (electronic mass application) is an online selection system with a complete ‘back office’.
More than just an electronic application form, eMA is a management system capable of handling high-volume assessment applications as well as providing statistics with reporting templates.
eMA can be tailored to meet exact airline assessment requirements and branded to match a corporate identity.
Automatic filters perform the first stages of assessment and will automatically communicate with the applicant via email using customisable email templates.
Colour-coded tabs enable rapid identification of the status of each applicant and powerful filtering tools provide quick access to specific applicant lists as required.
Crew assessment and reporting system - CARS
CARS is an online crew reporting, training management and assessment system which can be used either standalone, or as a modular add-on to eMA.
CARS can be viewed by instructors, crew and customers worldwide. It allows the user to build an unlimited number of training course templates, any combination of which can be added into different training course syllabi.
Assessment scoring and pass levels can be tailored as required, ensuring that CARS supports a wide range of potential applicant/trainee performance scoring profiles.
Interview notes and performance screens are provided along with graphical reports on a trainee’s progress.
Quality system management - SimCentral
SimCentral is an online database to support quality system requirements for the operation and maintenance of the qualification levels of simulators.
It incorporates a technical log, defect management reporting, maintenance scheduling and engineer alerts for both scheduled and non-scheduled maintenance.
Digital flightdeck layout trainers – DigiTrainer
A fully configurable classroom-based device with the capability to represent multiple airliner types; replacing the traditional ‘cardboard bomber’ trainers with significantly enhanced fidelity.
Our DigiTrainer is suitable for use either in training or crew rooms and has the added benefit of being able to support fleet-customised configurations.
One DigiTrainer can replace several traditional trainers - saving space and reducing costs.
