Upset Prevention Recovery Training (UPRT)

The prevention of loss of control in airline flight operation and appropriate recovery should it occur, is a core skill that airlines demand from their pilots. Significant discussion through aviation conferences and regulatory committees has taken place over the past 3 years on how this subject should be addressed. As a consequence, it has been decided by a number of key aviation regulators (e.g. EASA and FAA) to mandate Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT) for all professional pilots effective from future dates yet to be determined.

CTC Aviation has been highly participative in these discussions as well as helping with initial draft aviation rulemaking activities. In anticipation of future legislation for UPRT, CTC Aviation has now proactively included mandatory UPRT as a standard part of the syllabi for all CTC WINGS airline pilot career programmes - Integrated ATPL and MPL, including those sponsored by Partner airlines. Moreover, the introduction of UPRT has been implemented retrospectively to all CTC WINGS programmes for trainee pilots enrolled into training from October 13.

To enable this, CTC Aviation has introduced an innovative 7-hour UPRT programme which comprises:

  • 3 hours of training in a recently purchased Slingsby T67 aerobatic aircraft based at the Bournemouth, UK, Crew Training Centre
  • 4 hours of training in one of CTC Aviation’s Boeing or Airbus level D full-flight simulators to enable transfer of these core skills into an operational airline environment.

Gliding opportunities with CTC Aviation

CTC Aviation has partnered with the Air League and Lasham Gliding club to help aspiring young pilots into a career in aviation. The joint initiative ‘iFly’ will use the sport of gliding as an affordable tool to not only help young people get in the air sooner, but also to give their CV a real boost when it comes to progressing an application for a pilot training programme in the future.

Many young pilots want to fly for their own pleasure before they embark upon an airline pilot career programme, but often find it difficult to fund their passion. The iFly programme will enable successful applicants to gain valuable experience in terms of flying and theory designed help them in their future airline pilot career endeavours.

Up to 10 candidates will be chosen to receive a £200 bursary from the Air League. This will be paid into their Lasham flying account so the young pilot can embark on their flying career! We will expect that young pilot to attend Lasham at least once a month and join in with the great social scene that the Lasham Juniors have. In addition CTC Aviation and Lasham will be laying on a number of seminars across the year. These will provide fantastic material to help build a young pilots knowledge about the airline industry and what it is like to be a pilot.
